Weston Wamp, the son of former U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, says he might run against U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais in 2014.
Wamp told the Chattanooga Times Free Press on Wednesday that “it’s incredibly early … but I won’t rule anything out” when asked whether he will challenge DesJarlais in the next Republican primary for the 4th Congressional District. Wamp spoke to the paper days after calling DesJarlais “kind of a creepy guy” on Chattanooga television following the latest disclosures from DesJarlais’ 2001 divorce.
Earlier this year, Wamp tried and failed to unseat U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, the Chattanooga lawyer who replaced Wamp’s father when he left Congress to run for governor in 2010. The 25-year-old public relations consultant lives in the Lookout Valley neighborhood of Chattanooga.
Retired Cracker Barrel executive Forrest Shoaf, state Sen. Jim Tracy and state Rep. Joe Carr have also been mentioned as potential GOP challengers to DesJarlais.
